Wrestling
Wrestling is one of
the most famous sports in the world. Almost in every nation this sport is
played. Wrestling in general is a combat sport that focuses on grappling; it is
a kind of sport where there are two opponents and they have to defeat each
other through fighting. There were times that it was thought that wrestling
success was directly proportional or entirely dependent on the power of a
wrestler, but along with the passage of time this concept is getting changed as
well. Now every wrestler needs to adopt various skills, enhance his stamina and
has to use his brain. It is played differently in different countries and is
associated with the culture of organization. Wrestling is a kind of sport which
represents the kind of fighting culture in a nation. It also involves a referee
whose duty is to make sure that wrestling carries on without any cheating so we
can have a well-deserved winner.
Wrestling is one of the oldest martial arts; in France they
discovered cave drawings that can be tracked 15,000 years ago; Babylonian and Egyptian reliefs show
wrestlers using most of the holds known in the present-day sport. In ancient
Greece wrestling was a big part of their lives; they developed so many
wrestling moves that are used today such as hand-to-hand techniques; Greeks
solders used wrestling as self-defence and used wrestling techniques to defeat
Romans. Early England took wrestling as a traditional sport and brought it to the
USA. New York City organized the first wrestling tournament; that was in 1888.
Wrestling started to be a main sport in the Olympic Games starting from 1904,
after that FILA developed the sport and began to standardize and formulate
rules.
They are four types of wrestling which are Greco-Roman, Free style
wrestling, amateur pankration wrestling and beach wrestling. Greco-Roman
wrestling is the oldest wrestling which is taken from the Greeks; the best
Greco Roman wrestler of all the time is Alexander
Karelin from Russia. Free-style wrestling is the international one and the
most popular one in all the countries and is used in the Olympic Games; mostly
the techniques are using the opponent’s legs to take down and to defend. Amateur
pankration is an old wrestling that involves take downs and holding; basically
we call it nowadays mixed martial arts (MMA). Beach wrestling is the newest
wrestling; FILA has organized it; the
rules are wrestlers should wrestle on the sand,
wrestlers should wear swimming suits and the competitor’s goal is to
take down his opponent on his shoulder or push him out of the area.
Wrestling has been
popularized throughout Asia and some countries took wrestling as a traditional
way such as Japan and they named it Sumo. In Japan for being a wrestler it is
important to gain more weight because the kind of wrestling they play is that
they have to put the opponent out of a marked line or have to make the opponent
fall on the ground. Many famous wrestlers were produced by Japan in which
Yokuzana topped the list whose weight was more than 500 pounds. In Asian
countries like Pakistan and India wrestling is being done in rural areas where
wrestlers gain weight with lots of food. The problem which is seen for Asian
wrestlers is that they are not well-equipped and therefore due to lack of
knowledge and technology they are not as fit as those of other countries’
wrestlers but in spite of that both the countries have produced wrestlers who
have enlightened the names of their countries throughout the world.
Similarly Bruce Lee was another
great fighter and wrestler from China who surprised the world by his wonderful
quick moves. In China, most of the population comprises people of less weight
who are short persons; that is why their main defence and attack is not power
but the quick moves and fast hand-eye coordination. Moreover, China is the one
which has progressed a lot in this sport as they generated wonderful techniques
and fetched a lot of power through those skills.
The United States of America have discovered
a new wrestling style which is WWE. It is the biggest wrestling program under
the chairmanship of Mr. McMahon Hemsley. It is a family business which is
governed by the whole family including Stephanie McMahon (daughter of chairman),
Shane McMahon (son of chairman) and Triple H (husband of Stephanie). This
wrestling event was first named as WWF which stands for World Wrestling
Federation. WWF produced many legends and great wrestlers but as this event got
more popular some politics came in and now this event is mostly preplanned and
the name of this event was modified as WWE which stands for World Wrestling
Entertainment. It is a very organized program and the good thing about it is
not only Americans but the whole world has a craze for this program.
UAE government found wrestling is
interesting martial arts that focuses on strength and techniques so UAE
government established wrestling, judo kickboxing federation that was
established in 2001 His Excellency Dr. Ali Abdel-Aziz Al Sharhan.
